You ready for this? [06 Jan 2006|11:07pm]

[ mood | accomplished ]

*coughs* Ahem. So here's the story.

Waaaaaay back in...a long time ago, I put the comic on hiatus while I dealt with things. I went on vacation to Ireland in July - me the Aeromage in person, and had fun all around. However I got sick in Ireland, lost weight, and had to come home early. Upon returning hom I spent the next couple of weeks in a sort of funk, reevaluating my life and ended up with job. Shortly after my job-hunting skills were successful I began dating Brian. Who then - in a situation comical to me - became incredibly dear to me. And so we talk marriage. However he's on a mission (mission - N. : served for a church in order to lure unwary people into joining said religion)for the next two years so I have time now (since he's not here to drag me away from the computer) to draw this thing. Not just time, but the inclination. Iiiiinteresting.

Due to my schedule and my ineptitude with HTML, neither the archives are useable (check back Saturday the 7th of January, 2006 folks), nor is there an updated comic. Comic updates resume on Monday and will be twice weekly for the foreseeable future. I work. I therefore must steal time to do other things. *thief thief* (Twice weekly meaning Monday and Thursday.)

And now for the thank you portions of this speech. Thank you Reed for your invaluable help with the bloody website language thingies. I'd like to thank Gwyn and iI-chan for not bugging me, but keeping my comic in the forefront of my mind. Thanks to Julie and Michelle for inquiring about it upon occasion. Terumi for being cute. And Brian for glaring at me whenever I said I wanted to do my comic again but couldn't figure out how - and then reading it even though he doesn't like comics much.

See you on Monday.

For future notice all commentary on the comic itself will be written here.

I live. [22 Sep 2005|11:24am]

[ mood | bouncy ]

As of September 22nd, I have the completed archive reorganization sitting on my hard drive like a nice little pet. Go me.

Addtionally I have a tentative site design, and am working on the html as we speak (ok no not really, but I will be working on it again on Saturday).

And I've redesigned the Maryhedgepire and Morpheine. The other chracters should come fairly easily after that.

It's also my 24th birthday today. And so I'm going to take the money my grandmother sent me and go to the art store. Hello art store. *grin*

What's going on... [07 Sep 2005|09:10pm]

[ mood | determined ]

First of all let me say that the comic is DEFINITELY NOT ending. It is however, going on hiatus until the 31st of October. Come Halloween morning the site'll be back up. And here's why:

Reason 1: I have recently acquired a job, and am now working almost full-time. That means I'm not home long enough to do a comic on any sort of schedule.

Reason 2: I have several other projects that I'm trying to finish that have been put off for longer than this comic has existed. In order to keep my mental sanity and health I need ot finish them. No most of them aren't art projects.

Reason 3: The site needs a major overhaul. Redesign, archive fix, whatever. I am doing that myself - with some gracious help from our webmaster who is patiently teaching me how NOT to blow up html. I need the next 6 weeks to work on that.

Reason 4: Upon the reemergence of this strip I would absolutely love to have Nightmares finished and done. I AM working on this. I have given myself the deadline of October 29th for that.

So on October 31st you can expect to see - a redesigned site (sans bloody stupid tagboard), a large update comprising the last pages of Nightmares, an organized archive, and a happy artist. Until then I will post sporadic updates here and in my personal journal (mind you those updates will have "language" in them, these will be polite).

In the meantime I still be posting one shot art pieces on my Deviant Art account. If you're interested.

Goodbye Cruel Heat! [12 Jul 2005|11:55pm]

[ mood | amused ]

Ok, so it's been hot here, and I'm off to a place that has forcasted weather 20 degrees lower than mine. (Which I'm sure means that it's actually only 5 degrees lower.)

Everything's set up for Friday's update, so no worries there. I get back Sunday night, have a day (Monday) in which to recover before getting on another airplane at the god-awful hour of 6 in the blasted morning. Then I get a 6 hour layover before climbing onto the plane for London - and cooler temperatures please God I'd appreciate it.

No I'm not worried about anything untoward happening in London. Except perhaps being mistaken for a Mexican tourist instead of an American. (As Daniel - the brother - has decided he's going to pretend to be a Spanish tourist one day.)

Off to the Convention! Honestly I ran around like a chicken with my head cut off today, and still didn't manage to finish everything I wanted to. Although I did have a very random, and interesting conversation with a Brit I know... I digress.

Anyway tomorrow I meet up with the ever insane Reed Bond and the ever obscure Zachary Parker and company. Which should at least bei nteresting even if it IS sort or nerve-racking. And this from the woman who's actually met people off the internet before... As a very wise forum going (over at Flatwood) said: "it's like a first date only you know lots more personal information." or something to that effect anyway. Point being Kullervo is completely correct and ahhh! I haven't finished packing. I wanted to draw something to commemorate this momentous occasion, but all I came up with was stickboy waving a handkerchief. which would be behind this cutCollapse )

As to what I'm actually doing at the convention - I have no idea yet. Let me think, Zak and I will probably go be Stan Lee groupies together, Reed mentioned dragging me off to a movie, Match (from the Flatwood Forum, and my roommate) talked about being puddles in front of the Megatokyo booth...oh and there was a panel on copyright law I was interested in. Other than that...umm someone's got a copy of the things going on.

Wish me luck!

My Apologies [30 Jun 2005|03:03pm]

[ mood | sheepish ]

About July 1st comic.

It's fully sketched, not inked, and not colored. I'm leaving in about ten minutes and won't have access to a scanner until Sunday evening. There's no way I'll get it done. Sorry I know I said I'd have one, and I do, it's just...not...done.

Throw mangos at me if you want. However I only accept pitless ripe mangos.

hello [28 Jun 2005|09:12am]

[ mood | busy ]

Yes there is an update: apparently keenspace is experiencing troubles at this time, so as soon as I finish putting the update together I'll post it here. Ok? Ok.

edit: Ok never mind. Keenspace is fine now. Update will be there.

No one reads this anyway. YOU OUGHT TO! *falls over*

Long absence [21 Jun 2005|11:40am]

[ mood | stressed ]

Yes, life's still kicking me in the head, but it's a little gentler now. I can breathe for a bit.

See June 21: Late, yes yes I know. I have a note from my mother. Last panel bothers me. Heck the whole comic bothers me, but I'm not going to worry about it now.

Expect next update on Tuesday June 28th.

Oh look, commentary. [19 May 2005|05:32pm]

[ mood | frustrated ]

After I finished coloring Zephyr and Annie I realized that they look disturbingly like something from Charby the Vampirate. Drat. They weren't supposed to. Oh well. I suppose there's only so many ways to draw small girls with bizarrely colored hair.

They're air sprites. Rather young air sprites at that. Annie has purple hair and teal eyes because I wished her too. Plus purple is one of my favorite colors. Zephyr has purple eyes and blue hair for the same reasons. They're tiny. I mean look at them in comparison to Aeros' head!

Aeromage asked what else was similar between him and Aeros. Well there's the fact that you're both male... as for the rest, you'll have to wait and see.

By the by, yes Aeros has bright orange wings, no they're not on fire. And no they're not feathered wings. I'm not sure what they are. Possibly made of seaweed for all I know. More likely marshmallow.

Yeah ok, deal is that last night, while it wasn't very late, I was rather tired. Especially when it hit midnight. So I finished up the comic, turned off the computer and trusted to God and keenspace to get the comic up. Yeah well first it would have been nice if I'd remembered to upload the comic. And I didn't even notice until 2. Geez, I'm dense. So...sorry about that. Yeah I'm a moron, you can throw rotten tomatoes at me if you wish.

Insomnia is annoying. [13 May 2005|03:48am]

[ mood | blah ]

I am indeed tired, but having just finished the comic approximately 10 minutes ago, I haven't yet got up the energy to move from my chair.

Finding an appropriate background took me many minutes of deliberation - too many. 45 of them to be exact. Another 45 after that squinching everyone togehther on the page, and bit more cleaning up.

Last thing I have to say is that I'm glad we're through with Tenebrius for the moment. He's possibly the most annoying male to draw. His pose was not the original one I wished to draw, but it was the only one that worked with her - at least as late as I was trying to figure it out. Mostly it was the difficulty in drawing a small child tucked under his arm from the side that forced the change. I couldnt make it work. This came in a poor second.

Dialogue underwent changes about 6 or 7 times. The frogs line was just random. I don't know where it came from, but it has nothing to do with me being awake - since I cam ep with it sometime in the afternnon. The last panel bugs me a little, but that's mostly because I couldn't decide between a couple things and finally just compromised. I suppose I'll see if anyone is amused. I like the difference between yesterday's comic and today's, it's nice to know tha I can take the time to do a good picture and not really lose anything by not being funny. After all She is the Devil.

[11 May 2005|04:57pm]

[ mood | tired ]

No I'm not trying yet another new "thing" with the comic. This is a one shot deal. Basically it went like this. I sat down to sketch out the panels and instead started sketching Satan. When I finished, I looked at what I'd done (in pencil mind you) and went "holy mother of small fluffy things, that is precisely what I was going for." So I started to detail it, pretty it up a bit, make it a little nicer, color it, and ultimately ended up with - well basically what's on the site. (Plus some digitally added dialogue and narrator bits. Just consider it the Artist talking or something.)

So yes originally it was going to be a normal 5-panel comic but instead I decided to drag it out a little longer and put my effort into one kick-ass drawing. And it is fairly kickass if I do say so myself.

You don't want to know how long I spent coloring that thing - nor do you want to know how long it took me to sketch it out to my ever so exacting standards. There's still something off about her left hand, but mind you with the rest of the drawing being as it is I think I can live with that one small fault. And the original has one mistake on it due to the pen leaking when I was coloring. And of course it had to be after I'd already done her arm...

I had hoped that the tag-board and Buzz would be back to normal this morning, but alas my hopes were in vain.

Peanut peering into mailbox was inspired by Aeromage - and no I'm still not sure where the image itself came from. She's not reallly that small, but hey it was fun.

the block is lifting... [02 May 2005|11:36pm]

[ mood | amused ]

I can see clearly now, the block is gone... well ok, not gone, I still can't draw either Morpheine or the Kittypire without massive amounts of frustration killing the picture. (ie: they end up looking like particularly ill-proportioned stick figures with billiard ball shaped heads...) But today's the first day I've drawn peoples without wanting to scream. One of which I put on the main site, the other of which is going here.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I have no idea which pire it is, but obviously it's got to be either the peanut or the baby. (A rather grown-up baby at that.) Before anyone tells me what's wrong, yes I know. Unfortunately all I had was a compact mirror to look into and the angle and crap is waaay off. It's a weird angle anyway. I was noticing that a lot of comic artists don't use angles like that, as if the attention all has to be placed on the expression. I think she's got an expression, she looks a little wistful, a little snotty, and a little out of place to me. Crap, I just described myself. Ok ok I'll shut up now...

I want to paint this one.

*gasp* - late again. [26 Apr 2005|01:15am]

[ mood | so...tired ]

It's after 1 in the morning and I have to be awake and somewhat coherent by 7. Yeah I know that doesn't sound all that early, BUT IT IS REALLY!

It's halfway put together. Everything is drawn and colored and all pretty-like, I just have to finish scanning and typing and all those attendant difficulties.

I need to grow a buffer. *falls over* Let me just add it to my list of things to be done. *unrolls list* Yeah uh-huh - comes right after 'grow a spine' and just before 'clean room'. Which are sandwiched between freeze hell and get a job.

1:15 in the morning is not my happy time.

April 19 thru ...some date comics [19 Apr 2005|09:35pm]

[ mood | artistic ]

The next few comics (few meaning about ten or so) have been in my head for almost two years now. Originally they weren't the Maryhedgepire or Morpheine, but those images refused to leave me alone. Now let's hope I can get them down on paper with half the brightness they have in my head. *winces*

My artwork is slowly but steadily getting nearer the quality I'd like it to be at. I really have to thank a very well-written (in my opinion) and well-illustrated how-to book by Stan Lee and John Buscema for a lot of that. Instead of working purely from scratch I'm getting help with proportion, and basic drawing skills that I somehow missed along the way. Objects I'm decent at really, but people have always been very hard for me, and I feel like I"m finally getting a handle on one aspect of drawing them. That is, the comic aspect. It will take me a long while before I settle down to a consistent style so bear with me while I wander through the realms of drawing a comic.

As always thank you for reading.

Oh and by the way - it is indeed possible to kill a pire. *insert evil laugh here*

Ahhh! [14 Apr 2005|02:10pm]

[ mood | amused ]

So the tagboard died. I don't know why or how, but I assume the server exploded and no can get hold of anyone over at tag-world to let them know. Either that or the company died. Which would make me very very sad - since I would then have to find another one. *weep weep*

I'll stop being so melodramatic now.

Ha this page was fun! All except the last panel which drove me absolutely batty. But it sort of kinda worked out. I love the third panel. Poor Whozzat, being used as an armrest.

ramblings [09 Apr 2005|05:24pm]

[ mood | cranky ]

For those of you who are artists...ever notice that some days things just come together and it's like dancing on clouds to draw? Yeah? Today is not one of those days.

I have planned a large update for tomorrow, but as it stands I may have to divide it in half due to my abilities deciding that today is not a good day to behave and instead playing "annoy the artist" while skipping merrily about blowing raspberries in my general direction.

I refuse to give in though. I shall retrieve my ability catching net of doom and chase after them, if it takes me until 4 in the morning I will finish this update! I am determined! Hear me scream! In frustration! The net has A hole in it...

I'm taking a nap.

EDIT: Due to a great many things not currently under my control the large update has been put off until Tuesday, sorry to get anyone's hopes up. Yeah right, like anyone besides me reads this. *snort*

hmm [05 Apr 2005|01:19pm]

[ mood | artistic ]

Well I haven't used this in a bit so hey. Commentary, why not.

I could not get that pose right in the last panel for love nor octopuses. Finally I looked over at my brother and positioned him accordingly. Luckily he's old enough to bear a physical resemblance to Morpheine, so that worked well.

I forgot that using the type of paper I did for this comic makes the markers bleed all over the place. I have duly noted this and shall avoid it in the future.

Thursday new vote incentive - Juliepire.

Chibi Devil! [02 Apr 2005|12:36am]

[ mood | exhausted ]

Sort of. No I wasn't lazy, this was how I planned it. I wish the last panel was larger though...*sigh* Ah well maybe I'll scan it in again and use it as a vote incentive - or just put it up here. Trust me he needs that prybar.

Wow! They have a sense of humor! And here we all thought Tenebrius was a right bastard...well he is - but only to a couple people. Usually he likes to sit in a corner and brood. Besides he likes the Devil, God only knows why. Actually I lie, only I know, and I'm not telling.

On Sunday the last of the villains for a bit and then back to our heroine - currently napping on a large pile of orange pillows. Oh and a lap. She's using that too.

Good night. Ah wait, it's morning techincally.
